Layered Masking

Yesterday I posted a tutorial on masking on the AC Bailey site and had so much fun making it I thought I'd do another one just for my blog, but this time, I made it just a bit more complicated by adding a layer.

So first off, you will need the following supplies:

a focal stamped image ( I used a flower)
a complimentary image (I used small leaves and swirls)
a background image
a piece of white cardstock
a scrap piece of copy paper
ink colors of your choice.

First, stamp your focal image twice, once on the cardstock, and once on the copy paper. Cut the image out of the copy paper and place it over the image on the cardstock. I like to use just a bit of repositionable adhesive here so that it stays in place without moving.
Now, use your complimentary stamp to add interest to your image. Notice how I make sure the leaves overlap the flower a bit: this will make the leaves appear as if the were behind the flower. Now, stamp that same complimentary stamp on your scrap copy paper, as many times as you used it on your cardstock image (3 leaves for me) cut them out and use them to mask the leaves on your cardstock image, just as you did with the original focal image.

Now, stamp over the whole thing with your background stamp. This is what it will look like before you remove your masks:
And this is what it will look like when you remove the masks:

And here's the finished card I made using the stamped image created with this technique. Once you start mixing and matching your stamps you'll see how this technique really allows you to stretch your supplies and achieve very unique images, and for scrappers, this technique works amazingly well with Journaling spots!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it inspired you to get those stamps out and play a little!
